Today is planned for those who follow the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Hobbiton is only 45 minutes away from Nicara Cottage. The tour takes 2.5 hours to see Bagend and Bilboe’s house, the party tree and many other interesting sights for those Tolkein fans.Hobbiton has been rebuilt for 'The Hobbit' and now offers even more of the original set.

The drive to Matamata over the scenic Mamaku Ranges is a pleasant drive.  After the tour we recommend you return to Nicara via the country township of Tirau, a great place for lunch and some amazing buildings constructed out of corrugated iron. Some of the leading antique shops in New Zealand are located in Tirau.
