Travellers' Trees is a special project with both the Hamurana Springs Incorporated Society (HSIC) and Department of Conservation (DOC). Over the last few years, the HSIC has cleared the stream banks of the beautiful Hamurana Stream which flows from the pristine springs. The stream abounds with trout and much birdlife. The walk through the Redwoods to the Hamurana Springs is a magic stroll. DOC and HSIC has set aside and cleared an area close to the Springs solely for Travellers' Trees. Planting of the already purchased saplings occurrs in spring and is continued into autumn. Each traveller who purchased a tree will be sent the GPS coordinates in order to watch the progress of the tree.

Working bees involving members from the local community plant and care for the trees. The area is regularly mowed and weeded and a lovely space for picnics.

Visitors who have enjoyed the Redwood walk along the stream to the Springs will notice a considerable change. The stream has been opened up near the road, DOC has built a new carpark and there is much new planting of NZ native trees. This has to be Rotorua's best kept secret.
